Surf shack, open till sunset
Pacifico’s capitals tower. The lowercase reaches only a little past half their height, so an initial P or S stands well up out of the word, over brush strokes that run thick and round.
Vernon Adams drew it in 2011 for Google, who commissioned it, and the starting point was American surf culture of the 1950s. Adams was an English type designer living in San Clemente, California.
The font kept growing after him. Jacques Le Bailly of Baron von Fonthausen redrew it in 2016, and in 2017 Botjo Nikoltchev and Ani Petrova at Lettersoup added Cyrillic, which version 3 extended in 2019. Vietnamese is in there too.
Will it work in a paragraph? Not well. It is a word or 2 on a sign, a logo, a T-shirt, and with capitals this tall we would keep away from all caps.
