Font Licenses

Every font on Leslez is free to download, and each one comes with a license that says how you may use it. This page explains the licenses you will find here in plain words, so you can check whether a font suits a client project before you start.

Where To Find A Font's License

Each font page names the license that applies to that font and links to its full text.

Every ZIP you download from Leslez contains a LICENSE.txt file with the license of that font, and a NOTICE.txt file where the font has one. Keep both files with the fonts if you pass them on.

The 61 Fontshare fonts under the ITF Free Font License are shown on Leslez with their previews, but they are downloaded from Fontshare itself, where you read and accept the license.

What You Can Do

Use the font in any project, personal or commercial: print, websites, apps, video, logos and products. You can embed it in documents and software, share the files, and change the font and publish your version.

What To Keep In Mind

The font files cannot be sold on their own. A changed version must stay under the same license, and it cannot use a Reserved Font Name the original lists. When you pass the files on, include the license with them.

Keep the copyright notice, a copy of the license and any NOTICE file when you share the files, and mark the files you changed. The license gives no right to use the original names as trademarks.

The DejaVu fonts can be used, copied, changed and shared freely, commercial work included.

The fonts cannot be sold by themselves, only as part of a larger software package. A changed version must not use the names Bitstream or Vera.

The Indian Type Foundry owns these fonts and lets anyone use them free of charge in personal and commercial work, in print and on screen.

What To Keep In Mind

This is not an open-source license. The font files cannot be shared, sold or changed and passed on. For that reason Leslez does not host these files: their download links lead to Fontshare, where the license is shown before you download.

These summaries are a guide, not legal advice. Where a summary and a license differ, the license text decides.

The licenses cover the fonts only. The texts, specimen images, illustrations and design of Leslez belong to Leslez and are covered by the Terms Of Use.

For Type Designers

If you have made a typeface and would like it listed on Leslez, we would like to hear from you. Fonts under the Open Font License or Apache 2.0 fit the library as it is. If your font uses your own free license, tell us its terms and we will see whether Leslez can carry it under them.

We do not list fonts whose ownership is unclear or whose credits have been removed. Write to designers@leslez.org with the name of the font, its license and how you would like it shared.
