Carlito is Lato wearing Calibri’s measurements. Łukasz Dziedzic, who designed Lato, adapted it so every character has the same width as its Calibri equivalent, and that is the whole job: a Calibri document opened on a computer without Calibri keeps its line breaks and page count when Carlito steps in.

Look closer and the letters are still Lato’s, so the substitution is not invisible, only harmless to the layout.

It comes in the standard office foursome, Regular, Italic, Bold and Bold Italic, with 2,117 characters across Latin, Greek, Cyrillic and Vietnamese. The feature list goes well past office needs: small caps, old-style figures, 4 stylistic sets. Google Fonts listed it in March 2023.

Should you use it for a new design? We would not. Lato itself is the cleaner pick for a fresh layout, and Carlito is for the slide deck somebody else built.
