Thursday afternoon

Dear Alex,

I left the book by the window. There is a note on page twenty-three that I thought you would like. Bring it along on Thursday; we can finish the conversation over coffee.

See you there.

TypeTogether drew the South African school cursive for Playwrite ZA as a continuous script with a gentle slope and a fairly slow pace of construction. A few details mark it out from other continuous cursives:

  • the capitals carry cursive elements, with looped descenders on G, J, Y and Z
  • in the lowercase, ascenders and descenders loop so every letter can join the next
  • m, n, v and w start without the curved entry stroke most continuous cursives give them
  • x and z get distinctly curved shapes

Veronika Burian and José Scaglione built the Playwrite series on research from Primarium, a project documenting how primary schools teach handwriting around the world. This font comes in 4 weights from Thin to Regular and covers more than 150 Latin-based languages. Its sibling, Playwrite ZA Guides, prints ruled guidelines around each letter for practice sheets.

Do not press the B or I buttons in a word processor. There is no bold or italic, and the faked ones look poor.
