A Note On The Page

A short letter, set in the family.

Thursday afternoon

Dear Alex,

I left the book by the window. There is a note on page twenty-three that I thought you would like. Bring it along on Thursday; we can finish the conversation over coffee.

See you there.

Madame requests the next waltz

From about 1850 until 1925, Spencerian script was the standard business handwriting in America, until typewriters and the plainer Palmer Method pushed it out. Ballet takes that model and gives it a few whimsical twists. Maximiliano Sproviero designed it, and Eduardo Tunni, who taught for 10 years in the type design master’s program at the University of Buenos Aires, did the development at Omnibus-Type.

The project came in 2 masters, Ballet Display and Ballet Text, and the designers also drew an aligned and a crooked version of the script. On this page it is 1 Regular style.

The capitals are huge and the lowercase small and narrow. It wants size. Set a name on a wedding invitation or a monogram on a certificate large, and keep it away from anything a reader has to get through fast.

Coverage is wide for a script: the Latin character set runs to Turkish, Baltic and Vietnamese.
