Write a word with a double letter by hand and the 2 copies never quite match. Caveat copies that habit: its OpenType features swap in slight variations of a letter depending on where it falls in the word.
Google commissioned it from Impallari Type, Pablo Impallari’s foundry in Rosario, Argentina, for short annotations and, more ambitiously, body text. In June 2019 Cyreal, a Moscow foundry, added extended Cyrillic. There are 4 weights, Regular to Bold, and a sister family, Caveat Brush, if you want a different stroke.
Body text is a stretch in our view. The lowercase is small, barely more than 50% of the cap height, so paragraphs need a bigger size than you would guess. For a note scrawled across a slide or a sticky-note callout on a web page, it is excellent.
