Somewhere around Year 3 or 4, children in Victoria, Western Australia and the Northern Territory move from Label Print, the letters of their first school years, to Infant Cursive. The 3 regions share that sequence, and this font was made so teachers there could put the same letter shapes on a worksheet that their pupils are learning to write.
Google Fonts credits Tina Anderson and Corey Anderson. According to the project’s notes Tina Anderson designed it and Eben Sorkin helped and prepared the files for publishing. It is 1 piece of a larger set for the same 3 regions: Edu VIC WA NT Beginner came first in 2022, and a family of Hand, Pre, Arrows, Dots and Guides versions followed in 2024. This Hand cut and its Pre partner were added together in May 2025.
What do you get? Regular, Medium, Semi Bold and Bold, from a weight axis running 400 to 700, plus contextual alternates and 6 stylistic sets of alternate letters. The capitals stand tall over a modest lowercase, so give the lines extra space on a practice sheet.
