Before the heavy fat-face headlines that Thai newspapers use today became the norm, there was a short period when papers set their headlines in something quite different, and Fahkwang brings that style back. Cadson Demak calls it a revival of a display style from the hot metal era.
What makes it unusual is the shape of the Thai. The letters are squarish and wide, a break with the looped Thai most readers see every day, and the designers describe wide proportions in Thai as close to a taboo they wanted to explore. Contrast is high, and a matching Latin comes with it. The project README names Kitti Sirirattanabunchai and Niwat Phattharowat as the designers.
Cadson Demak itself started in 2002 as the first Thai communication design firm to take on type design, and became a boutique foundry under that name in 2008; Kanit, Prompt, Pridi and Sriracha are among its other families on Google.
There are 6 weights, Extra Light to Bold, each with an italic. Its intended job is headlines and subheads in news and documents, and that is where we would keep it, large enough for the thin strokes to show.
