Smena and AIC Media wanted a typeface for state and social service websites, pages people visit to get something done, and Golos was what they commissioned. Alexandra Korolkova and Vitaly Kuzmin designed it, and ParaType released it in 2019.
Golos Text is the reading member of the family, built for long stretches on screen. The letters are on the closed side, with the lowercase big and the setting slightly wide, so lines come out generous and easy to track. Cyrillic and Latin are both covered, and the figures switch between old style and lining, tabular and proportional, which is useful when a page mixes amounts in a table with dates in a sentence.
Weights run from Regular to Black. We would keep Regular for body text and use Semi Bold or Bold for form labels and buttons, leaving the Black for the odd headline. It came to Google Fonts in January 2023.
