Byblos, Tyre and Carthage

22 letters, all consonants, read from right to left. Phoenician was in use from around 1050 to 150 BCE across the Mediterranean, for the Phoenician and Punic languages, and it was the first phonetic script to spread widely, itself descended from Egyptian hieroglyphs.

The Monotype design team drew this version for Google’s Noto collection as an unmodulated, even-stroked design. The file covers the Unicode Phoenician block, including the number signs and the word divider, and a Latin alphabet comes along for the transliteration and the commentary around it.

For a museum caption or a paper on Punic inscriptions it does the job cleanly. 1 Regular weight.
