Warm wool for winter nights
The 12 in the name is the height of a capital letter, counted in stitches. Sarah Cadigan-Fried designs her Soft Type collection for knitting color-work, and she points out that type for knitting is pixel type, only the pixel is a stitch and its size depends on the yarn. Each face in the collection is numbered by its cap height so you can pick 1 that fits the garment.
Jacquard itself is an expanded revival of a Victorian needlepoint alphabet that Heinrich Kuehn designed in Berlin around 1880. She had machine knitting in mind, though it works for hand knitting, needlework, even bedazzling a jacket. If you knit Fair Isle, watch your floats, as always.
There is a Charted version too, Jacquard 12 Charted. This one is the Regular, and on a screen it also makes a charming pixel headline.
