People who prefer the older, inherited shapes of Chinese characters are the audience LXGW names for this font, along with Traditional Chinese readers in general. That tells you where the work went. LXGW took the characters of Klee One, a Fontworks design, converted them to old forms using legacy glyph shapes from the Zonz community and the AFDKO tools, folded them into the earlier WenKai, and then went through most of the components again against Yidianzifang’s “Inherited Glyph Standardization Documents”.
The result is a handwritten kai style with a lot of reach. The file in this download holds 22,401 characters:
- Traditional Chinese, with bopomofo for annotation
- Japanese kana
- Latin, Greek and Cyrillic, with Vietnamese
- Lisu
3 weights, Light, Regular and Bold. We like the Regular for a reading app or a blog where the text should feel written by a person; for dense official documents we would pick something plainer.
