A Note On The Page
Dekko · Regular
A short letter, set in the family.
Thursday afternoon
Dear Alex,
I left the book by the window. There is a note on page twenty-three that I thought you would like. Bring it along on Thursday; we can finish the conversation over coffee.
See you there.

Before it was Dekko, the Devanagari was a typeface called 4948 from Modular InfoTech in Pune, dating back to 2000. Sorkin Type reworked it to feel more written and more even in shape and weight, and opened up the spacing between letters so it could hold up at smaller sizes on screens.
The Latin came from somewhere else, Short Stack, and was fitted to the Devanagari in weight and size. Both scripts start from written forms with heavy horizontals. There is a difference in the pen, though, and an interesting one. Devanagari has traditionally carried some diagonal stress from the angle of the pen, and Dekko keeps that, while the Latin was given a vertical stress.
Eben Sorkin led the project from Boston. A May 2015 update improved the OpenType shaping and the vertical metrics.
1 style. We’d use it for friendly Devanagari copy on a website or a menu, at sizes where the handwriting reads as handwriting.
