Croatian first graders learn their letters in print, matching each to a sound. Second grade switches them to rukopisno pismo, a continuous, fully joined cursive, and Playwrite HR Lijeva is drawn on that model.
The standard behind it is fairly recent. Research the Ministry of Education sponsored from 2007 onward produced, among other things, a handwriting handbook from Ante Bežen and Siniša Reberski, and classroom practice has followed it since 2013.
What does the hand look like? It slants, and it runs continuously, with short looped ascenders and descenders. The capitals are a little decorative, some of them built to connect to the next letter. A detail teachers will spot: the curved lead-in appears on r, v, w and y, and m and n go without it. Everything is drawn slowly and roundly, with care.
