Mina started from a Latin font. Exo, Natanael Gama’s geometric sans, had been on Google Fonts since 2012, and Mina extends it into Bangla, the script of Bengali, with Exo serving as the Latin half.

Suman Bhandary drew the Bangla, reducing the letters to low-contrast geometric strokes while trying to keep the traditional way each one is constructed. Bhandary is an independent type designer who researches Indian scripts and teaches as an assistant professor at the Indian Institute of Art and Design in New Delhi. Gama also drew Cinzel and founded the Portuguese foundry NDISCOVER. The third credit, Mooniak, is a Sri Lankan studio working on Sinhala, Tamil and Thaana type.

There are 2 weights, Regular and Bold. It holds up in a headline, and it was also designed for small to middle text sizes, which suits a Bengali news app or a bilingual menu.
