Round the corners of a compact grotesque and you have Open Sauce Two. The Open Sauce family began as Creative Sauce’s internal type system, and Alfredo Marco Pradil split it into 3 related designs, Sans with ink traps, One without them, and Two with its softened edges. Like the others it was planned as a compact face for small text, whether on a phone or a printed page.
Its designer classes it as a modern grotesque. The italic keeps almost the same widths as the roman, so switching to it in the middle of a line moves very little along.
14 styles, Light 300 to Black 900, 371 characters. The Latin set goes well beyond Western Europe, the original README lists more than 80 languages from Afrikaans and Basque to Swahili, Zulu and Kinyarwanda. Tabular and proportional figures, fractions, ordinals and case-sensitive forms are built in.
When Open Sauce Sans feels too technical for a brand, Two is where we would go, for an onboarding screen or a cafe menu.
