Hymns for the morning liturgy
Coptic took its alphabet from Greek, and this font carries Greek along with it, the 2 sharing a Unicode block. Since the 2nd century CE the script has written the Coptic language, which survives today as the liturgical language of the Coptic church, and it has served Andaandi, Nobiin, Old Nubian and Mattokki too. Some 0.4 million people use it.
Denis Moyogo Jacquerye worked with the Monotype Design Team on this Noto version: a plain sans with capitals and lowercase, combining marks, 188 characters in all, 1 Regular. Church booklets, Coptic language courses and scholarly editions are where it will earn its place.
