Coffee on Dizengoff at noon
When Michal Sahar released Secular One in 2016 there were few Hebrew sans serif faces meant for text, and she wanted an easy going one, simple and still with a voice, that would read well at small sizes over long paragraphs.
It has only 1 weight, which is unusual for a font meant for body copy. Headings need size or color to stand apart, since there is no Bold to call on. Sahar’s own pitch is that the letters pay off at large sizes too, when their delicate and slightly eccentric details become visible, and a logo or a poster in Secular One can show them.
Is a single weight enough? For a Hebrew blog or a bilingual brand with a small palette, probably yes.
The Latin was drawn alongside the Hebrew, and both got a bigger character set and a few fixes in a June 2023 update. Sahar works in Tel Aviv.
