Square script, late 17th century

Zanabazar, a leader of Tibetan Buddhism in Mongolia, devised this script in the late 17th century, and it was used to write Mongolian, Sanskrit and Tibetan. He also created the Soyombo script. Zanabazar Square, sometimes called Mongolian Square, is an abugida written from left to right, and it needs software with complex text shaping to display correctly.

The Monotype design team drew the Noto version as an unmodulated sans. It covers the 77 characters of the Unicode Zanabazar Square block, in 1 Regular weight, with Latin added so notes and transliterations can sit in the same font.
