Thursday afternoon
Dear Alex,
I left the book by the window. There is a note on page twenty-three that I thought you would like. Bring it along on Thursday; we can finish the conversation over coffee.
See you there.

Meu caderno de caligrafia
Brazil got its upright cursive by a long road. Vertical school hands showed up in the 19th century in France, England and the USA, trimmed-down versions of Roundhand and Spencerian, and in the north they fell out of favor fairly fast. Spain, Portugal, Italy and France kept them, and from there the style went to former colonies in South America. In Brazil it pushed out the hands that had been popular before it, the American Palmer method and the commercial Roundhand from England.
Playwrite BR Guides takes the Playwrite Brasil letters and adds the lines a child copies against, for baseline, x-height, ascenders and descenders. Typing an underscore leaves only the lines, 1 word space wide, so a practice row can be built out of nothing but underscores.
