Danish teachers get to pick. Under the 2019 Danish Common Goals, children should write upper and lowercase by hand and on a keyboard by second grade and produce legible joined writing by fourth, but the model is left to the school. Partway through second grade, or at the start of third, they move from print letters to 1 of 2 cursives, plain Grundskrift or Grundskrift med løkker, the version with loops. Playwrite DK Loopet is the looped one.

It is a hybrid, the fully joined modern cursive with loops added to the tall strokes. The b shows it best: a modern cursive body and connector, then a loop on the ascender you would not expect to find there. Everything leans, ascenders and descenders are short, and the result looks round and contained. Every lowercase letter joins the next, except q.

Capitals stay simple and print-like. The G is odd, with no crossbar and no descender.

TypeTogether’s Veronika Burian and José Scaglione drew it for the Playwrite project, and it went onto Google Fonts in May 2024 in 4 weights, Thin to Regular, plus a Guides sibling with ruled lines. A handwritten letter or a recipe card in Danish would suit it; the language coverage stretches to more than 150 Latin-based languages if you need it elsewhere.
