Philatype calls Sen a geohumanist sans. Kosal Sen constructed it geometrically, in the family of Avenir and Futura, then made it more neutral than those and gave it a humanist touch so it stays friendly and easy to read. It was the foundry’s first open source typeface, on Google Fonts since January 2020, and in June 2023 it was rebuilt as a variable font.
The weights start at Regular and only get heavier, 5 static steps up to Extra Bold here, with no italics. It sets a little wide.
Checkout buttons and app headings are its natural ground. We’d save Extra Bold for the big numbers on a pricing card.
