Smooch Sans started small. Robert Leuschke drew it as a truncated sans, a limited set meant only to accompany his brush script Smooch, and only later went back and gave it a full character set and a weight axis. It now runs from Thin to Black, 9 weights in all, with Nhung Nguyen credited as a contributor.
It is narrow, and a line in it takes far less room than the same line in Arial. That suits a price tag or a menu column, anywhere big letters have to squeeze into a tight space.
The pairing it was made for still works best. Put Smooch on top for the brand name and Smooch Sans underneath for the details, and the 2 come from the same hand. Latin covers Western and Central European languages and Vietnamese.
