Pull a dollar bill out of your wallet and the engraved lettering on it is the source of Asset. Riccardo De Franceschi and Eben Sorkin turned that into a fat face: very heavy, very extended, with a hard contrast between the thick strokes and the thin ones.
How wide is very wide? A run of its lowercase needs about 2.5 times the room Arial takes for the same words. That decides most of what you can do with it. 1 word across a banner, a price, a name on a shopfront. Whole sentences fall off the edge of the page.
The designers say it reads at medium sizes and does its best work large, and we agree with the second half more than the first. It was made with the web in mind, print second, and the single Regular carries case sensitive forms, fractions, ordinals and the accents for Vietnamese. Sorkin Type Co. put it out in 2011.
