Look at the Latin in this font and you find ǎ, ǐ, ǒ, ǚ and the rest of the vowels with tone marks, and beside them the 4 tone signs ˊ ˇ ˋ ˙ that go with Bopomofo. Both ways of writing Mandarin sound are catered for, which tells you who it is for: people learning, or teaching, how Traditional Chinese characters are read.
The main trick belongs to But Ko’s Bpmf project. A character with more than 1 reading usually forced a typesetter to swap in a separate font for the less common pronunciation. Here every reading lives in the same file, picked through Ideographic Variation Sequences and substitution features under ButTaiwan’s Bopomofo IVS specification, so the Zhuyin beside a character can change while the typeface around it stays put. The project’s web tool adds the annotations for you.
