Corner liquor stores and grand old theaters share a problem: not enough wall. So the sign goes up, 1 letter over the next, and Bungee is David Jonathan Ross’s tribute to that habit. It sets text vertically as well as horizontally.
To make a stacked word hold together, the letters lean on their verticals: the O and the A are straight-sided, and serifs on L and I square off both edges of the column.
Inline is 1 of 7 Bungee variants on Google Fonts, next to the plain Bungee, Hairline, Outline and Shade, and 2 color fonts called Tint and Spice. Outside Google, Ross’s own releases add rotated fonts for programs that cannot stack text, and layer fonts for building up color by hand. Marte Verhaegen and Just van Rossum produced a major revision in 2023 and 2024, with an automated build and better vertical features.
This style carries 11 stylistic sets and covers Vietnamese. Keep it big; an inline is a fine line by nature, and it needs size to show.
