Grand opening ceremony, 9 am
Strong contrast between the vertical strokes and the horizontal ones is the first thing in Chonburi, and the Thai side is where it gets interesting. Cadson Demak’s notes go as far as offering its thick and thin treatment as a model for other Thai font makers.
The Thai is formal and looped, the Latin a serif, both built for headlines at ceremonies, festivals and other occasions where people dress up. Display Thai tends to simplify the old looped shapes, and the foundry had to keep look-alike letters such as ฎ and ฏ clearly apart while doing it.
The name is borrowed from Chonburi, a province on Thailand’s east coast. It went out on Google Fonts in July 2015, a week after Itim, the same foundry’s casual looped face.
It sets wide, so plan for long lines in a banner. 1 Regular, with Vietnamese in the Latin and a few discretionary ligatures.
