Lay a random grid of triangles over a letter, keep only the ones that land inside the outline or touch it, then group them in chains of 30 to 60 and push each chain a few units up, down or sideways. That is the whole recipe behind Rubik Distressed, and the shifted chains are what give the edges their worn, scuffed look.
The recipe is code. NaN, the Berlin studio co-founded by Luke Prowse, wrote it as part of Glyph Filters, a set of procedural scripts for the Glyphs editor, and ran Rubik through it. Simon Cozens reviewed the filter code. Because the base is Rubik by Hubert and Fischer, the result still covers Latin, Cyrillic and Hebrew.
1 Regular, added to Google Fonts in June 2022. It reads fine at poster size and on a T-shirt print; keep it out of small text, where the gaps between triangles start to eat the letters.
