Penny candy, by the scoop
The backstory comes from the font’s own blurb: little Emily gets a quarter from her grandpa for being good, walks downtown to the dimestore and fills a sack with penny candy. That is the whole brief, and the letters play along.
Crystal Kluge drew it for Neapolitan, a trading name of Font Diner, and it came out in February 2012. Kluge is a lettering artist and illustrator whose work has run in magazines, giftware, stationery, ad campaigns and shop signs, and she now runs her own retro type label, Tart Workshop.
The font itself is simple, around 230 characters, Latin-1, no ligatures or alternates. A bakery box lid or a birthday card needs no more than that.
