Tonight at the Blue Angel
The title screen of Der blaue Engel, The Blue Angel, gave Brian J. Bonislawsky the idea for Englebert. The film came out in 1930, directed by Josef von Sternberg for UFA and adapted from Heinrich Mann’s novel Professor Unrat of 1905. It starred Emil Jannings and Marlene Dietrich, was shot in German and English versions, made Dietrich famous around the world and gave her the song Falling in Love Again.
What Bonislawsky took from it is a mild, playful lettering, casual but striking enough to catch the eye. It sets a little narrow. He released it in November 2012, with a character set reaching Latin-2, Turkish and Windows Baltic.
