Poultry, City of London, EC2

Walk around the City of London and the street names are lettered in Albertus, the face Berthold Wolpe drew, and since the years after World War II that lettering has stood for the City itself. Faculty Glyphic is a modern tribute to it.

Koto, the London studio, designed it in 2024 for Faculty, a company working in applied AI, with Dylan Young credited on the font. The brief tied the company to the city: London’s long record in computing, and its carved inscriptional lettering, with Edward Johnston named as an influence beside Wolpe.

It is a single Regular, Latin only with the extended accents, and it has tabular figures and fractions, which a tech company’s charts and price tables will use. We would keep it to headings, a logo and short lines on signs, where those glyphic, chiseled shapes have room to show.
