King Sejong introduced Hangul in 1446 as a simpler, phonetic way to write Korean than borrowed Chinese characters, and since 1945 it has been the standard script. Its 51 basic letters are grouped into syllable blocks, a block for each spoken syllable. Hanja, the Chinese-derived characters, never vanished: schools still teach somewhere between 1,000 and 3,000 of them. A Korean font for real use therefore has to set both, and Noto Sans KR does.
It is a large international job. Adobe produced it, under its Source name, with Ken Lunde as project architect and Masataka Hattori on production. Sandoll Communications, with Soo-young Jang and Joo-yeon Kang, drew the Hangul elements, letters and syllables; the kana and ideographs are by Ryoko Nishizuka, and the Latin, Greek and Cyrillic by Paul D. Hunt.

9 weights, Thin to Black, each holding 23,174 characters. Hiragana and katakana are included, so Japanese words in Korean text are covered, and so is Bopomofo. It joined Google Fonts in February 2018.
For a Korean website or app this is the safe default: plain and unmodulated, with enough weights for a full interface hierarchy. Its weakness is file size, so subset it for the web if you can.
