Lunch special written on the board

Yusei Magic came from a permanent marker. Tanukizamurai based it on lettering written with one, and kept its stroke pattern, thick verticals against thin horizontals. That contrast makes it carry across a room, and the letters keep enough space inside them to feel soft despite the heavy lines.

The designer’s own suggestion is blackboard-style handwriting and pop art, and we would add café menus and shop signs, where a hand-lettered look is expected but the text still has to be read in a hurry.

The single Regular holds 7,566 characters: Japanese kana and kanji with Latin alongside. It came to Google Fonts in 2020.
