Strip the Latin out of Tirra and what remains is a Tifinagh font, and a handwritten-feeling one. SIL International drew the Neo-Tifinagh letters to follow a handwriting style, which is why Google files the family under handwriting while still calling the stroke sans serif.
Tirra was cut from a bigger family. SIL’s Akatab covers more ground, and Tirra keeps only the part that languages written in Neo-Tifinagh need, along with all 6 of Akatab’s weights, Regular up to Black. The Latin has another parent altogether: the copyright credits those glyphs to Adobe, under the Source name, so an English or French word set beside the Tifinagh is borrowed Source lettering.
No light weights, no italic.
For a bilingual notice we would keep the running text at Medium and save Bold or Black for a heading of 2 or 3 words. Google added the family in July 2025, so it is 1 of the newer script releases in the library.
