Grand Auction of Fine Horses
When English printers of the industrial revolution needed type that would yell from a wall, they made the fat face: verticals as heavy as they could be, horizontals and serifs left as hairlines. Gravitas One takes that “UK fat face” as its model, and Riccardo De Franceschi drew it for Sorkin Type.
It is enormous on the line. A word in it spreads far wider than the same word in Arial would, so count your letters before you commit to it.
Use it from medium sizes upward, which is the designer’s own advice and also plain good sense: at small sizes the thin parts vanish and the heavy ones merge. 1 Regular, basic Latin, nothing else in the box. On an auction poster or a festival bill it will carry the top line without any help.
