Kablammo started as an experiment in motion. Vectro Type Foundry, with Travis Kochel, Lizy Gershenzon, Daria Cohen and Ethan Cohen credited, built it as a variable font on a single axis named Morph, and turning it sends the decorative bits flying while weight and contrast shift underneath. The look comes from the maximalist curly doodads of 1990s graphics and from the Memphis Design movement, with the cartoons and toys of those years thrown in.
Along that axis every letter has 4 settled states, the forms the designers count as the most stable. The file on this page is the static Regular, 1 pose out of the many, still 985 characters deep with Cyrillic and Vietnamese and some contextual alternates.
Where it goes
Game titles, comic covers, a sticker. The designers name animation as its natural home, and an animated title card is where we would try it first; Google added it in April 2023. In a sentence of more than 6 or 7 words the noise wins.
