A Note On The Page
Mr Dafoe · Regular
A short letter, set in the family.
Thursday afternoon
Dear Alex,
I left the book by the window. There is a note on page twenty-three that I thought you would like. Bring it along on Thursday; we can finish the conversation over coffee.
See you there.

Somebody’s signature is buried in Mr Dafoe, though nobody can say whose. Charles Bluemlein’s habit was to gather signatures, work each of them up into a full alphabet, and then christen the result himself, since the finished script no longer resembled the hand it started from. The name Dafoe is his invention. Higgins Ink catalogs carried the designs.
Alejandro Paul and his studio Sudtipos brought the Bluemlein scripts back as digital fonts, kept the made-up names, and expanded the character sets.
The capitals are big and the small letters very low, around half their height, and the whole thing runs narrow. So a word in Mr Dafoe is mostly a strong initial and a quick tail. Use it for a name, a logo, a label. A full sentence gets hard to read fast.
