Google pitches Noto Kufi Arabic mainly at larger sizes, and the style tells you why. Kufi is the very simplified end of Arabic writing, far from the widely used calligraphic Naskh, and this version pares it back further by keeping every stroke at an even weight.

Who made it? The Monotype Design Team and David Williams on design, with Khaled Hosny doing the engineering, which for an Arabic font means the shaping logic that joins every letter correctly to its neighbors. The character set reaches into the Arabic Supplement and Extended blocks, used for languages other than Arabic, and there are Latin letters and tabular figures for mixed tables.

9 weights, Thin to Black.

Our take: the heavier weights are where it earns its keep, on a shop sign or an app’s title bar. For paragraph text in Arabic you’d want a Naskh, so pair the 2 and let Kufi take the headings.
