Notes From The Reading Room
The reading room opens onto a quiet courtyard. Along the shelves, small handwritten labels mark the collections. A visitor leaves a book open beside the window, keeping a place for the next reader.
A heading marks the next chapter. The margins leave room for a note while the text continues across the page.

Reverend Chervang Kong created the Nyiakeng Puachue Hmong alphabet in the 1980s. It is written left to right and used for White Hmong and Green Hmong by members of the United Christians Liberty Evangelical Church, in the USA, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, France and Australia.
That is a small and scattered readership, and Google’s Noto project serves it with this serif design, which Dalton Maag drew with modulated strokes. It holds the 75 characters of the Unicode block, plus a Latin set, in 4 weights from Regular to Bold, enough to give a church bulletin or a hymn book a heading weight that is not faked by the software.
