Headings, labels and running text.

Notes From The Reading Room

The reading room opens onto a quiet courtyard. Along the shelves, small handwritten labels mark the collections. A visitor leaves a book open beside the window, keeping a place for the next reader.

A heading marks the next chapter. The margins leave room for a note while the text continues across the page.

Newspaper and magazine headlines are the job Santiago Orozco gave Antic Slab. It is the slab member of his Antic Type System, next to a Sans and a Didone, and the plan is to mix all 3 on a page for rhythm.

The slab serifs are discreet. Proportions are modern and the letters condensed, so headlines fit tight columns, and there is a slight handwritten stress in the strokes that keeps the letters from feeling stiff. Orozco gave each family a large x-height, with the web in mind.

1 Regular style, basic Latin, kerning and nothing else. For a news site that is enough to work with.
