Notes From The Reading Room
The reading room opens onto a quiet courtyard. Along the shelves, small handwritten labels mark the collections. A visitor leaves a book open beside the window, keeping a place for the next reader.
A heading marks the next chapter. The margins leave room for a note while the text continues across the page.

Khmer has been written in Cambodia since the 7th century, and today some 12 million people read it. The script is an abugida, running left to right, and besides Khmer itself it carries Brao, Mnong and Pali. Software has to handle complex text shaping to set it properly.
Danh Hong worked with the Monotype Design Team on this modulated, serif member of Google’s Noto collection.
The headline feature is the range, 9 weights from Thin at 100 to Black at 900, with a matching Latin set. A Khmer serif with that many steps lets a publication run body text and headlines in 1 family. Regular is the place to start for reading.
