Notes From The Reading Room
The reading room opens onto a quiet courtyard. Along the shelves, small handwritten labels mark the collections. A visitor leaves a book open beside the window, keeping a place for the next reader.
A heading marks the next chapter. The margins leave room for a note while the text continues across the page.

An essay on the provincial post
Sveta Sebyakina drew Alike between 2009 and 2011, and its letterforms are said to carry a Czech influence, tense and expressive, which she softened so the text would feel friendlier. Proportions are regular and contrast is low. It reads calmly.
Cyreal released it in 2011, with Alexei Vanyashin collaborating. Cyreal was a young open-source collective at the time, founded in 2010, and is also behind Lora and Alice, among others.
Alike has a titling partner, Alike Angular, with the same proportions but built only from straight segments and with livelier T, Z, M and E, meant for large sizes. It is a separate family.
What you get here is a single Regular, no bold or italic. In 2023 Emma Marichal filled in the missing Latin glyphs and rebuilt the accented letters, so the coverage is fuller than in early versions. For an essay or a short book that only needs a roman it works; anything with headings and emphasis will need help from another family.
