Notes From The Reading Room

The reading room opens onto a quiet courtyard. Along the shelves, small handwritten labels mark the collections. A visitor leaves a book open beside the window, keeping a place for the next reader.

A heading marks the next chapter. The margins leave room for a note while the text continues across the page.

Sanchez comes in a Regular and an Italic, and the 2 take up exactly the same room on a line. Swap a phrase into italic for emphasis and nothing reflows, which is handy in a narrow column.

Daniel Hernández drew it at LatinoType, the foundry he co-founded with Luciano Vergara in Concepción, Chile, in 2008. It is a slab serif, with standard ligatures and some stylistic alternates in the Regular.

It dates from 2012. We would use it for headings and short articles on a blog or a travel site; the slabs give a page a sturdy, outdoorsy look.
