Notes From The Reading Room

The reading room opens onto a quiet courtyard. Along the shelves, small handwritten labels mark the collections. A visitor leaves a book open beside the window, keeping a place for the next reader.

A heading marks the next chapter. The margins leave room for a note while the text continues across the page.

Oysters, champagne and late jazz

Find the Q. Its tail has a baroque swing to it, and with the curled drops and the terminals cut on a slope it gives Vidaloka most of its personality.

Alexei Vanyashin and Olga Karpushina drew it at Cyreal as a Didone for headlines and short blocks of text. The contrast between thick and thin is high, and the designers put the floor at 16 px; on a phone we would go well above that, because hairlines that fine get eaten by the screen. 1 Regular, 220 characters, Latin only, kerned.
