Aktura mixes 2 medieval traditions on purpose. The lowercase is a gothic textura, redrawn with a fresh, calligraphic hand, the letter you see on newspaper mastheads and diplomas. The capitals are Lombardic, round and decorative, and Gaetan Baehr made them a little more playful than historical Lombardics.

The pairing has a history. Gothic scripts were close to unicase, with no real matching capitals, until printing arrived in the 15th century, and pairing them with Lombardic capitals was an occasional practice. Aktura brings that habit back.

Those capitals are too ornate for a word in all caps. A short logo, tracked out wide, might get away with it, and they make fine drop caps at the start of a chapter set in an ordinary serif. A stylistic set offers an alternate uppercase.

Indian Type Foundry, which Satya Rajpurohit and Peter Biľak started in 2009, published Aktura, and it has been on Fontshare since July 2021. It is a single weight and fairly narrow, so a masthead or a certificate title sits comfortably in it.
