Notes From The Reading Room
The reading room opens onto a quiet courtyard. Along the shelves, small handwritten labels mark the collections. A visitor leaves a book open beside the window, keeping a place for the next reader.
A heading marks the next chapter. The margins leave room for a note while the text continues across the page.

Vesper’s Latin came second. Rob Keller began the Devanagari in 2006, and its shapes then set the pattern for the Latin letters, a process I Love Typography wrote up in 2009. Kimya Gandhi joined later to finish the Devanagari character set, which was completed in 2014.
Libre is the web cut. Mota Italic, the Mumbai foundry that leads the project, simplified the tiny details and trimmed the character set so pages load quickly, and an April 2015 revision adjusted the character set and the OpenType features once more.
The foundation is classical and the finish modern, by the foundry’s account. You get 4 weights, Regular, Medium, Bold and Black, with contextual alternates and fractions among the features. We would run the Regular for Hindi and English articles side by side and hold the Black back for headlines.
