The small signs that sit above the words in a printed Koran, ۖ ۗ ۘ and their relatives, are all here, along with the ornamental brackets ﴾ ﴿ and the whole basmala drawn as 1 glyph, ﷽. Amiri Quran is the part of Khaled Hosny’s Amiri project trimmed down to setting Koranic verses: 266 characters, a single Regular.

Behind the whole Amiri family is the Naskh type that Bulaq Press in Cairo, also known as the Amiria Press, introduced in the early 20th century. The fonts take their name from the press. That type was 1 of the few metal faces ever used to set the Koran, and the project saw it as a sound base for a digital face meant for the same verses. Sebastian Kosch shares the credit on Google Fonts, which added this version in August 2022.

There are 5 stylistic sets and localized forms as well.

Amiri proper is the one for books and long running text. Keep this one for the verses, quoted on a page or set on a screen.
