Notes From The Reading Room
The reading room opens onto a quiet courtyard. Along the shelves, small handwritten labels mark the collections. A visitor leaves a book open beside the window, keeping a place for the next reader.
A heading marks the next chapter. The margins leave room for a note while the text continues across the page.

Set it at 12.5 points, Igino Marini says, because that is the size of the original type. The type in question is the Pica Peter De Walpergen cut for the learned press John Fell built at Oxford.
The dates are a little off from the usual Fell story. Fell died in 1686 and left his punches, matrices and molds to the university, but this Pica was acquired in 1692, after the bequest had already passed, so strictly speaking it came to Oxford after him and is not part of what he left.
Marini digitized a roman and an italic and ran both through iKern, his own system for automatic spacing and kerning. Both styles hold the old ligatures plus stylistic alternates and 4 stylistic sets, and the long s is in there for anyone setting period spelling. Compared with Georgia the roman sets fairly narrow and the x-height is small, and in print we would take his 12.5 points at face value, with a little extra leading for the small lowercase.
