Notes From The Reading Room

The reading room opens onto a quiet courtyard. Along the shelves, small handwritten labels mark the collections. A visitor leaves a book open beside the window, keeping a place for the next reader.

A heading marks the next chapter. The margins leave room for a note while the text continues across the page.

Say it Ah-ra-pay. Arapey is a small town in the north of Uruguay, and Eduardo Tunni made the first sketches of this face there while on vacation, so the town gave the font its name.

There is some Bodoni in it, you can see the family resemblance, but Tunni softened the lines and the finishing, and the result reads calmer than a strict modern face. The italic is the part we like best. It has a gentle rhythm and holds up in a short passage of text as well as in a title.

2 styles, Regular and Italic, Latin only, 243 characters. It has been on Google Fonts since 2011. For a menu or a wedding invitation it is a quiet, good-looking pick.
