The Woodcutter's Almanac
Marko the Sparrow came first. He is a cartoon character by the illustrator and type designer Zhenya Spizhovyi, and Marko One began as a typeface to keep him company, a face for children’s literature. Spizhovyi built the letters up from calligraphy and sketches, and Cyreal published it in December 2011.
It is a wide serif, its forms kept simple and smooth.
Medium to large sizes are where it was meant to work: a picture book’s title page, a chapter opener. For the reading text after it, pick something quieter. The file is small, 1 Regular with 212 basic Latin glyphs and no kerning, so check the spacing of a title by eye before it goes to print.
